Vikes add two, lose 1 as Free Agency marches on

81-JEROME SIMPSON
Derek Cox
DEREK COX

This 2014 Free Agency period thus far for the Vikings has been so fun to watch and hope. I can remember 2007 when the Vikings signed Visanthe Shiancoe and Vinny Cirurciu for the free agent period.  I was so disappointed that was all the team signed. I will say Shiancoe was a pleasant surprise and I did enjoy his time in purple. Cirurciu played mostly special teams. That was then and this is now. I am so thankful that so far this week there has been plenty of action at Winter Park.

Friday the team announced officially 2 more moves. Derek Cox was brought in to give the team a little more depth at defensive back. The signing of Munnerlyn and now Cox helped seal the deal as the team saw Chris Cook leave for the 49ers.

Cook had 0 interceptions in 4 years while Cox comes in with 13 for his career. The team just keeps showing an attempt to fix this defense.

The 2010 Vikings draft saw the team take 8 players. They were Chris Cook, Toby Gerhart, Everson Griffen, Chris DeGeare, Nate Triplett, Mickey Shuler, Joe Webb and Ryan D’Imperio.  This week has now seen 2 more leave and one resign.  The 2010 draft class is down to 1 and maybe 2 depending on Joe Webb. We have only Griffen left from 4 years ago.

Friday saw the team resign Wide Receiver, Jerome Simpson to a one year deal. I for one am happy for this. I do look so forward to seeing how Norv Turner can use his weapons. It was just 2 seasons ago where the feeling is the team had no receivers to throw to. We now have an ample supply of talented receivers. The key to me this year will be how Patterson can be involved more.
